PEACHES AND NECTARINES
PEACHES AND NECTARINES
Peaches are divided into three main categories: common peaches , nectarines ( also called nectarines ) and percocche .
These categories can be further divided according to the maturation period : we will have peaches with a very early ( June) , early ( July-August ) or late ( in September ) maturation.
Common peaches and percoche have velvety skin instead nectarine have smooth skin ; all types can have white or yellow pulp .
The plant is grown in many states where areas have mild temperate climate . Globally, the largest producers are the US , followed by Italy , Spain , Greece , China , France and Argentina . In Italy the major producing regions are Emilia - Romagna ( about 1/3 of the production ) , Campania ( 1/4 ) , Veneto and Latium .
